Brightness Must Fall - SOLD

Acrylic on canvas | 24" x 18" | May 2011

Cherries have beautiful outstanding red shiny skins, when they are ripe or just over ripe they will naturally fall from the branch. Just as in life, a person when they reach the top, its very hard to stay there, eventually they start to shake and fall just like the cherries. It doesn't matter how strong you are, as in life, everything has to come to an end.

Mixed Happiness

Acrylic on canvas | 300mm x 750mm 3 panels | April 2011

This canvas painted literally by hand, followed closely in the footsteps of Releasing Anger shows the differing levels of happiness (green and white trails) that can be felt. The hand painting done to represent the actual placing of the feelings of happiness onto the canvas.

Releasing Anger

Acrylic on canvas | 24 " x 36" | February 2011

Young's first work painted with hands. There are times in our lives when we all experience intense anger and need to find a way to release this, this extremely expressive work shows a huge outpouring of emotion, the anger clearly portrayed in the blood red splotches thrown at the canvas. Young really enjoyed this creation, she said about it "it healed myself inside and allowed all my anger to dissipate"

Aesop Lost in the Forest

Acrylic on canvas | 30" x 40" | August 2010

Whilst living in Australia, Young met many different people from all walks of life, she was a very social person. She would talk to them about what they wanted to do, their goals and aspirations. This canvas represents the feelings of this young generation, the branches, the different directions they all wanted to take, whilst being at the same time in the middle of a huge forest. However, for most, they lead their lives on a day to day basis without thinking and are lost in the forest. The side branches do not lead anywhere, blocked and petering out at the end even though this is not clear when they started on their journey.

Lonely Old Couple

Acrylic on canvas | 18" x 24" 2 panels | July 2010

Young has always had a fascination with the older generation, in fact she believes that she is a 'very old soul' she says "I feel like I'm over 70" sometimes. She liked to attend a community, helping the aged and frail to move and exercise. She found that there were a lot of residents who were very lonely, either with no family or with family but who rarely came to visit them. The people in this aged community would come there to see other members to help to relieve their loneliness and boredom. This work of dual mirrored paintings represents these people in their blank back grounds being old and frail like the trees in winter with the second tree in each work being the friend they find there.

Autumn and Winter Textures

Acrylic on canvas | 18" x 24" 2 panels | June 2010

These two works express the feelings of autumn and winter. Young sees the colours of the seasons very distinctly, the black and white of winter and the bronze golden colours of autumn. This work expresses these colours and also the textures that are found during these seasons.

Eye of the White Tiger

Acrylic on canvas | 24" x 18" | April 2010

This work was created during the early part of Young's art career. She is completely self taught and in this piece we can see a new style she developed, the lines on the canvas are continual with no break, working very quickly to create the effect of the White Tiger's fur, this work was completed in under 3 hours.

Growing Hopes - SOLD

Acrylic on canvas | 30" x 40" | November 2009

All of us have hopes, some hopes are bigger than others. The circular shapes are the representation of these hopes all hanging onto the big white hope of life. The strands attached to the "hope balls" stretching out their feelers to try and grab on so they dont get dashed falling back to the ground.

Structured Life

Acrylic on canvas | 24" x 36" | September 2009

We all have life plans, you goto school, you start work, you find a girl and get married, you have kids. Like on the motorway, you have to keep going along the structured way. Everyone is set on a journey, their path in black and white. The only way out is to jump off and start again. The plain white of the background providing this opportunity that is available to all but so hard to accomplish.

Life Flows

Acrylic on canvas | 36" x 24". | July 2009

The simple soft colours of this canvas show us how we should actually let life flow. Harmonising with each other, not fighting, just allowing opportunity to come, not against the laws of attraction or coincidence.
If we follow this life path then our lives will be fulfilled and the journey will flow and be easy.
